A rather quick little post today as I'm going to be rather busy this week due to night shifts, finishing my NVQ and my mum toddling off to America for her birthday.
As I doubt I'll manage to do any blogging this week I thought I'd post a little something to keep me going till Sunday.
It probably won't come as any surprise that I'm addicted to cookery magazines, I try to resist but the shiny covers always draw me in.
This month though I feel that Delicious magazine has excelled itself, whilst browsing through on the quiet part of my shift last night I found many articles of interest.
First up was the regular section called My Kitchen Therapy where a celebrity is interviewed about their food memories and then give you a couple of recipes. The celebrity of choice this month was Lionel Shriver, writer of We Need to Talk About Kevin.
Nice little bit of voyeurism and I've bookmarked it in my head for when I eventually review it for the blog.
Next up is a great article about a new food campaign called We Love Knobbly Veg done in conjunction with the National trust.
The bones of this campaign is trying to get rid of an outdated and ridiculous classification system which doesn't allow fruit or vegetables to be sold to us because it's the wrong shape or size!
It's absolute madness when you think about world hunger or the fact that at the moment we're going through a recession and being told to tighten our belts that food should that is just ascetically less pleasing shall be at best be fed to animals or at worst go to landfill. It screws over both the farmer and the consumer at the same time.
The details are over on their website and is explained in better detail than I ever could.
Other articles of interest this month is a short one about Elizabeth David, the great doyenne of British cookery. An article on Madhur Jaffreys new book and some new recipes from my own personal God of cookery Nigel Slater!
How can I possibly resist recipes for chocolate chip hazelnut cake with chocolate cinnamon butter cream or cinnamon pear cake with vanilla fudge sauce? These are from he's new book tender 2 which I know I'm receiving for my birthday next month.
So that's my little bit of fanfare for the month, and I really recommend going to the website as it has loads of recipes and how to articles although I couldn't find the Lionel Shriver interview.
I hope that people have fun this week as it's national baking week over here and I'm hoping that I will be able to join in at the weekend with some baking myself!
I LOVE cookery magazines and I often get Delicious magazine. Have yet to read this issue though!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a good one this month! I'm just dieing to get down to some serious cooking.
